An iron gazebo for your garden
Shopping Tips
With the following guide, we would like to help you navigate the huge range of different garden pavilions available on the market. This will enable you to quickly and easily find the right iron pavilion for your garden, offering high quality and durability.
The iron garden pavilion: designs and possible variations
If you have decided to purchase an iron gazebo for your garden, there are a few basic questions you need to ask yourself about the characteristics of such a gazebo. This is because the metal gazebos available on the market differ in terms of various features that directly or indirectly affect their durability, stability and functional use. Iron garden gazebos can be distinguished from one another based on factors such as:
Common shapes for an iron gazebo
The most common shapes for iron gazebos are round and oval. However, some manufacturers and retailers also offer iron gazebos with square, rectangular, hexagonal or octagonal floor plans. The shape you ultimately choose is almost always a matter of taste. You should simply ensure that the shape of your new iron gazebo harmonises visually with the rest of your garden and its design and does not create any unwanted dissonance.
Choosing the right size for your iron gazebo
Depending on whether you want to use your iron pavilion primarily as a climbing plant or rose pavilion, or whether the arbour is primarily intended for cosy get-togethers outdoors, the question of size is particularly important. In the latter case, the garden pavilion must of course offer enough space for you, your family and sometimes also friends and guests. Nevertheless, it should not be too large, as this will restrict your freedom of movement in your own garden. In addition, an iron pavilion that is ‘forced’ into a garden does not look nearly as good as one that is adapted in size to the available space. The sizes available on the market range from about 2 metres in diameter or edge length to well over 5 metres.
Pipes or solid material?
If you would like to leave your iron gazebo in the garden all year round, we definitely recommend a model made of solid material. This is because it is significantly more stable and weather-resistant than tubular constructions. Solid material does not usually bend, even in the strongest winds, and is better protected against rust than tubes. In addition, the high weight of a steel gazebo made of solid material means that it does not normally need to be anchored to the ground.
Should you buy an iron gazebo with or without a roof?
Manufacturers and retailers offer iron garden gazebos both with and without roofs. For models with roofs, there are also various options to choose from. Common options include removable weatherproof shade sails, closed roof structures with shingle or tile covering, and iron gazebos with roofs made of glass or clear plastics such as acrylic glass or polycarbonate. With the latter in particular, you must ensure that the roof design is hail-resistant, otherwise you may not be able to enjoy your new garden arbour for very long. An iron garden pavilion without a roof can also be planted, similar to a pergola or a garden arbour. Climbing plants or roses can grow upwards and form a natural roof and a great contrast to the metal. However, such a metal pavilion without a roof is not a weatherproof solution.
Achieve optimum corrosion resistance with the right coating
Most iron gazebos have a surface coating that not only enhances the appearance of the arbour. Such a coating is primarily intended to contribute to a longer service life by preventing corrosion of the iron. Simple paint coatings and galvanised iron gazebos are common examples. In addition, zinc and paint can be used in combination. The patina surfaces that have become increasingly popular in recent years are also a type of coating that protects the underlying material from further corrosion. Of all these variants, a simple paint coating is the most susceptible. Dents and scratches in the surface allow moisture to penetrate the paint layer and cause corrosion even on an iron gazebo made of solid material.
Accessories make an iron gazebo truly unique
You want your new iron garden gazebo to be a unique piece of individual garden design. However, this is usually only possible with optional accessories. These are not available for every iron gazebo. It is therefore worth finding out before you buy which accessories the manufacturer offers for your preferred pavilion. Only then will you have maximum design freedom. Marketplaces such as Amazon or eBay often offer standard gazebos. Individual customisation and design is usually not possible.
ELEO wrought iron gazebos
At ELEO, we generally manufacture our pavilions from solid wrought iron. This material is characterised by its robustness and durability. Our predominantly round and oval iron pavilions are just as suitable for private gardens as they are for use in hotel gardens or extensive parks.
Frequently asked questions about iron gazebos
ELEO offers wrought iron gazebos in numerous sizes and shapes. From small gazebos with a diameter of just 2 metres to square gazebos and 5-metre round gazebos for large gatherings, you will find the right iron gazebo for every requirement in our range.
Our iron gazebos are available in galvanised, raw or patinated finishes, as well as with our proven powder coating. The latter consists of a combination of galvanisation and colour coating and ensures maximum protection against corrosion over a long period of time. The different coatings allow you to give your iron gazebo an individual look, from antique to modern, depending on your preferences.
ELEO iron pavilions are suitable for year-round outdoor use without additional care or maintenance. An antique metal garden pavilion several metres high offers stability. They have a high dead weight and, despite high wind speeds, do not usually need to be anchored to the ground.
All ELEO wrought iron gazebos are available with optional accessories, that can be added and visualized in our unique product configurator. Our Rosa, Edera, Lily, Xantio and Vite trellis designs are particularly worth mentioning here. With these, your new iron gazebo can be transformed into a fully-fledged trellis gazebo in no time at all. Unlike a pergola or a rose arch, you have plenty of scope for design. We also offer a matching weatherproof shade sail in numerous colours and matching curtains for every iron gazebo. Both are acrylate coated, making them waterproof and offering UV protection. Last but not least, we offer decorative balls for our iron gazebos, which make the already antique look of our iron gazebos even more authentic. The balls are designed to be mounted on the roof peak. Such decorations emphasise the effect of a stylish, luxurious look.
A comparison of different materials for garden pavilions
You may be wondering whether you really need an iron garden pavilion or whether there are other alternatives that might be more suitable for you. We have therefore compiled a table comparing different materials, listing their advantages and disadvantages. This table should give you the overview you need.
| Material | Weight | Durability | Stability | Outdoor usage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plastic | light | moderate | low | short-term |
| Aluminium | light | well | moderate to good | medium-term |
| Stainless steel | heavy | excellent | excellent | long-term, permanent |
| Iron | heavy | excellent | excellent | long-term, permanent |
Design your iron gazebo according to your wishes now
Although our pavilions are traditionally handcrafted, they are of course mass-produced. However, you can customise them to suit your individual taste by choosing accessories from our range. You can make them even more unique by adding garden furniture that suits your personal style or planting them with richly flowering climbing plants. Like a garden arch or pergola, you can also plant roses on a metal pavilion to bring romance into your own garden. A rose gazebo next to the house is always an eye-catcher.
Garden furniture for a particularly cosy iron arbour
As our iron gazebos are designed for year-round outdoor use and can be equipped with a waterproof sun sail, they are ideal for outdoor leisure activities. To ensure that you do not lack comfort and convenience, you should also take the utmost care when selecting garden furniture.
The classics: wooden garden furniture
Wood is one of the oldest known materials and has been used for generations to make garden furniture. However, not all types of wood are equally suitable for long-term outdoor use. Teak, larch, eucalyptus and Douglas fir, for example, are very weather-resistant even without additional surface treatment. On the other hand, woods such as pine, fir and spruce always require an additional coat of paint or glaze.
Metal garden furniture: stable and robust
Various metals have also been used for a long time in the manufacture of garden furniture for your iron gazebo. These are usually aluminium, iron or steel, and stainless steel. It is also possible to combine different metals with each other and with plastics. Metal furniture goes well with a metal gazebo in an antique look, for example. When choosing metal garden furniture, make sure that the surface coating is the same as that of the iron gazebo itself.
Plastic garden furniture
Unlike a few decades ago, plastic garden furniture is now also suitable for permanent outdoor use in most cases. This means that it is weather and UV resistant and only needs to be stored indoors during the winter. Poly rattan, for example, which attempts to replicate natural wickerwork, is often used for this type of furniture.
Overview of different garden furniture materials
For a better overview, we have listed the various materials used for garden furniture in a table below:
| Material | Weight | Resilience | Corrosion resistance | Price range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless steel | high | very high | excellent | high |
| Iron / Steel | high | very high | very good | medium |
| Aluminium | light | high | very good | high |
| Wood | medium | medium to high | poor to very good | cheap to high |
| Plastics | light | medium to high | very good | cheap to high |
Iron gazebos in price comparison
When looking at the various iron garden gazebos available on the market, it is not surprising that they sometimes vary greatly in price. A comparison of metal pavilion prices shows, for example, that a model made of iron tubes that can be assembled is significantly cheaper than a wrought iron garden pavilion. A price comparison of iron gazebos is therefore only meaningful if you compare different models of the same design and material.
Our ELEO gazebos made of solid wrought iron are certainly not the cheapest, but they offer numerous advantages. For example, our Toscana and Siena models are not only particularly robust, but also have different sizes. These are all-season gazebos that can remain outside all year round and can be used as climbing gazebos or rose arbours, among other things. In addition, all our gazebos are not only available in different coatings, but also with accessories such as high-quality shade sails, curtains, climbing trellises, and decorative balls for mounting on the roof. Cheap offers for iron gazebos from retailers on Amazon or eBay usually do not offer such variations and combination options and often have a shorter lifespan. A luxury iron gazebo offers reliable quality that you can enjoy for many years to come.
Iron gazebo: Whether round or square, individual and versatile
An iron gazebo offers you numerous possibilities for use in both private and public areas. Round iron gazebos, as well as square iron gazebos, can be used as cosy retreats where you can relax and unwind from everyday life. With the right equipment, they are also ideal as barbecue gazebos for lively garden parties and celebrations. If an iron pavilion is round, it can usually be harmoniously integrated into any garden and is suitable, among other things, as a climbing gazebo or rose arbour, which looks great and adds an additional high-quality design element to your garden. Below are some tips for customising your round iron pavilion.
Relax like royalty or high nobility
Why not treat yourself to a special way to relax in your own garden? With an Art Nouveau metal gazebo, you can relax like the princes and nobility of times gone by – pure romance. Especially if you furnish your round iron gazebo with extra comfortable upholstered furniture for outdoor use. Such furniture is now available everywhere in specialist shops and even in DIY and garden centres at very affordable prices. It is often characterised by particularly thick, comfortable and, in many cases, weather-resistant and waterproof upholstery. This means that you don’t have to put the cushions away every time it rains and they are quick and easy to dry afterwards. This is particularly advantageous if you have opted for a round iron gazebo without a fixed or closed roof.
Design your garden with unique floral splendour
If your iron gazebo is round and of a suitable size, it can be used as a wine gazebo or a climbing gazebo. In addition to vines and climbing roses, there are a number of other decorative plants that are suitable for greening such a round metal gazebo. This will give your garden a particularly high-quality look. For example, you can enjoy the multicoloured flowers of different varieties of roses and clematis, or cover your round iron gazebo with fruit-bearing climbing plants such as kiwis or blackberries. The range of plants that can be used is huge. Your garden centre will be happy to advise you on selection, care and the best location.
Use your round iron gazebo for barbecuing
Even for die-hard barbecue fans, a round iron pavilion has its advantages. From all sides of such a garden pavilion, you have an excellent view of your guests eagerly awaiting the finished barbecue food. If your iron pavilion is equipped with side panels, you can reliably prevent unauthorised persons from entering your ‘sanctuary’ and tampering with the barbecue. By equipping the pavilion with a roof or a waterproof sun sail, you can barbecue in it even in bad weather or light rain and are protected from additional heat from above in bright sunshine. However, always ensure that there is sufficient distance between the hot barbecue and the roof or canvas to prevent damage or even an accidental fire. If a pavilion without a roof is used, such as a rose pavilion, the smoke can simply rise upwards, just like with a pergola.
The round iron gazebo as a marquee for the garden
With the right size, approximately 3 to 4 metres in diameter, an iron gazebo (whether round or oval is irrelevant here) can be used as a sturdy marquee for the garden. Equipped with a roof or sun sail, such a gazebo offers protection from both the harsh sun and light rain showers, allowing you to celebrate garden parties with family, neighbours and friends almost regardless of the weather. Below is a summary of some possible uses for round iron gazebos:
