A square gazebo for your garden

Buying advice

With the following tips, we want to help you navigate the huge range of wrought iron garden gazebos available on the market. This will help you quickly and easily find the durable, high-quality iron gazebo that your garden is missing.

Wrought iron gazebos: Design and variants

If you have decided to purchase a wrought iron gazebo for your garden, there are a few basic questions you need to ask yourself about its properties. The various metal gazebos on the market differ in several characteristics that have a direct or indirect effect on their stability and functionality. Iron garden gazebos can be differentiated in various ways:

Depending on how you intend to use your iron gazebo, various characteristics may be important to you.

The most common shape for metal gazebos

The most commonly used shape for garden gazebos is square. The size you choose is primarily a question of need. You must ensure that the shape and size of your new gazebo is in harmony with the rest of your garden and its aesthetic.

Choosing the right size

The question of size is particularly important depending on whether you want to use your arbour primarily for its trellis, i.e. for growing roses or other climbing plants, or whether you want to use your arbour primarily for entertaining outdoors. In the latter case, the wrought iron arbour must offer enough space for you and your family, as well as your friends and guests. However, it should not be too imposing, as this would restrict movement in your garden. Furthermore, an iron arbour that is ‘stuck’ in a garden does not have the same effect as one that is adapted to the space around it. The sizes available on the market range from 2 metres in diameter to 5 metres and above.

Tube or solid material?

If you want to leave your iron gazebo in the garden all year round, we recommend choosing a model made of solid material. It will be stronger and more weather-resistant than a tube construction. Solid material does not usually bend, even when subjected to strong winds, and is more resistant to rust than tubing. In addition, thanks to the weight of the solid material pavilion, it is not normally necessary to create additional anchoring in the ground. A wrought iron arbour is particularly recommended for outdoor use throughout the year.

Should you buy an iron gazebo with or without a roof?

Manufacturers and distributors offer iron garden gazebos with or without roofs. There are several different models with roofs. Weather-resistant shade cloths, enclosed structures with shingle or tile roofs, and iron gazebos with roofs made of glass or transparent synthetic materials such as acrylic or polycarbonate are common options. Structures with a solid roof are also known as garden kiosks. Make sure that the roof is hail-resistant, otherwise you will not be able to enjoy it for long. A metal garden pavilion without a roof can be decorated with plants, such as a pergola or a rose arch. Climbing plants or roses can cling to it and form a roof that contrasts beautifully with the metal. However, a metal arbour without a roof does not offer good weather resistance.

Achieve optimal corrosion resistance with the right treatment

In most cases, metal gazebos undergo surface treatment for reasons other than the aesthetics of wrought iron pergolas. This treatment primarily serves to extend the product’s lifespan by preventing iron corrosion. Simple colour treatments and galvanised iron gazebos are common. In addition, zinc and colour can be used together. Even the patina finishes that have been so popular in recent years feature a surface treatment that protects the underlying material from further corrosion. Of all these options, the most fragile is a simple colour treatment. Damage and scratches to the surface can allow moisture to seep under the colour layer and cause corrosion to appear even on solid iron gazebos.

Accessories make your gazebo unique

You probably want your iron garden gazebo to be a unique feature in your garden. Optional accessories can help you achieve this. However, these are not available for all gazebos. It is best to find out before purchasing which accessories your manufacturer offers for the gazebo of your choice. This will give you the greatest freedom of design. Retailers such as Amazon or eBay often offer standard gazebos. In most cases, no customisation is possible.

At ELEO, we generally manufacture our gazebos from solid wrought iron. This ensures their robustness and long life. Our iron gazebos, which are mainly square in shape, are ideal for private gardens, hotel gardens and parks.

A comparison of different materials used in iron garden gazebos

You may be wondering whether you really need an iron garden gazebo or if there are other alternatives that might suit you better. We have prepared a comparison table of the different materials available, along with their respective advantages and disadvantages. This table should give you the overview you need.

Design your iron arbour now according to your wishes

Our arbours are mass-produced, even though they are handmade. However, you can customise them to suit your taste with our wide range of accessories. They will be even more unique with matching garden furniture that reflects your personality or with climbing plants and ornamental flowers. A garden arbour can be decorated with roses, just like an arch or a pergola, adding a lovely romantic touch to your garden. A rose trellis next to the house is always eye-catching.

Garden furniture for a particularly comfortable iron gazebo

As our wrought iron arbours are designed for year-round outdoor use and are equipped with a waterproof shade cloth, they provide the perfect setting for your dream garden furniture. It is important to choose your garden furniture carefully to ensure maximum comfort.

Garden furniture is available in a wide range of classic and modern materials.

The classics: Wooden garden furniture

Wood is one of the oldest materials and has been used to make garden furniture for generations. However, not all types of wood are suitable for prolonged outdoor use. Teak, larch, eucalyptus and Douglas fir are very weather-resistant woods, even without additional surface treatment. Woods such as pine, fir and spruce, on the other hand, require a coat of varnish or wood stain.

Metal garden furniture: Strong and sturdy

Similarly, many metals have long been used to make garden furniture for your iron gazebo. These are usually aluminium, iron or steel, and stainless steel. A combination of different metals or metal and synthetic materials is also possible. Metal furniture goes very well with an antique-looking metal gazebo. Make sure that the surface treatment of your metal garden furniture matches that of your gazebo.

Synthetic garden furniture

Unlike a few decades ago, synthetic garden furniture is now suitable for prolonged outdoor use. This means that it is weather- and UV-resistant and does not need to be stored indoors during the winter. Synthetic rattan, for example, replicates the look of woven rattan and is often used for this type of furniture.

Overview of different types of garden furniture

Below is a table summarising the various categories of garden furniture:

Price comparison of iron garden gazebos

Considering the various iron garden gazebos available on the market, it is not surprising to find large price differences. A price comparison of metal garden gazebos will show, for example, that a model made of iron tubes that need to be assembled is much cheaper than a wrought iron garden gazebo. This price comparison is therefore only relevant when considering different models made of the same material and with the same assembly.

ELEO gazebo: Invest in quality

Our ELEO wrought iron gazebos are not the cheapest, but they offer countless advantages. For example, our Toskana and Siena models are not only particularly sturdy, but also available in several sizes. These are all-season gazebos that can remain outdoors throughout the year and can be used as trellis pavilions or pergolas for rose bushes. In addition, all our gazebos can not only be finished with different surface treatments, but can also be embellished with various accessories such as high-quality shade cloth, curtains, Rosa and Edera trellises, and a brass finial to top it all off. Retailers such as Amazon or eBay do not usually offer this kind of options and combinations for their iron gazebos, which are often less resistant. A luxury iron gazebo offers reliable quality that will delight you for many years to come.

Iron arbour: square, unique and versatile

With a square iron arbour, you can choose from a wide range of uses in both private and public spaces. This square iron arbour will provide you with a refuge where you can relax every day. It can also be used as a pavilion for barbecues and entertaining guests. A square iron arbour generally blends in perfectly with any garden and can also be used as a trellis or pergola for roses, adding a beautiful aesthetic touch to your garden. Here are a few tips for designing your own custom square iron arbour.

An iron arbour can be used in a variety of ways, depending on your personal preferences.

Relax like royalty and noble lords

Why not treat yourself to a unique place to relax in your own garden? With an Art Nouveau-style metal gazebo, you can relax like the noble lords of yesteryear, in the purest romantic style. It’s even better if you furnish your square gazebo with ultra-comfortable padded furniture suitable for outdoor use. This type of furniture is now widely available in shops and even in DIY and gardening stores at very affordable prices. It is often characterised by particularly thick, comfortable padding that is often weather-resistant and waterproof. This means that the cushions can be left outside in the rain and simply dried quickly afterwards. This is especially advantageous if you have opted for a square iron arbour without a closed roof.

Enhance your garden with unique flowers

If your iron arbour is square and large enough, it can serve perfectly as a trellis pavilion. There are many plants other than vines and climbing roses that you can grow on your pretty metal gazebo. This will give your garden a very special look. For example, let yourself be enchanted by the colourful flowers of different varieties of roses and clematis, or add greenery to your iron arbour with fruit-bearing climbing plants such as kiwis and blackberries. The range of plants you can use is immense. Ask for advice on choosing, caring for and finding the best location for your plants at your local garden centre.

Use your square gazebo for barbecues

Your gazebo even has advantages for barbecue enthusiasts. A garden gazebo gives you a perfect view of your guests as they eagerly await your barbecue delights. If your gazebo is equipped with side panels, you can prevent unwanted intrusions while you’re busy at the barbecue. A gazebo equipped with a roof or waterproof shade cloth will allow you to barbecue in all weathers, protected from sudden rain, sunlight and heat. However, be sure to leave enough space between the hot grill and the roof or canvas to avoid damage or even fire. When using a gazebo without a roof, such as a rose arbour, smoke can simply escape from the top, as with a pergola.

The iron gazebo as a reception tent in the garden

When it is the right size, from about 3 to 4 metres, the gazebo (square or oval) can be used as a reception tent in the garden. An gazebo equipped with a roof or shade cloth protects your guests from the sun and light rain, allowing you to enjoy parties in the garden with your family, neighbours and friends without worrying about the weather.
