Steel gazebos for gardens or patios
If you purchase a solid steel gazebo for your garden, it offers several advantages over gazebos made from other materials in terms of durability, stability and utility. Nevertheless, when buying, it is important to keep your eyes open and compare, because not all steel is the same and not every gazebo model is equally suitable for every purpose.
Which steel would you like for a gazebo?
Steel gazebos differ from one another in terms of the choice of material, among other things. This is because there are many different types of steel, such as:
- Stainless steel, usually naturally and without coating, completely weather-resistant
- Conventional steels
- Steel gazebos made of wrought iron or cast iron
Unlike most stainless steels, the latter materials are also weather-resistant, but they corrode or oxidise outdoors if they are not provided with an additional surface coating. In the case of patina surfaces, this may even be desirable. If you don’t like a ‘rusty’ surface, you can opt for a steel gazebo with a galvanised surface or one that has been painted or coated with colour to prevent oxidation. This also offers the possibility of extensively customising the appearance of the steel gazebo. It is only through coating that the steel gazebo ultimately becomes virtually waterproof. In addition, a coating offers the possibility of varying the colour scheme of the metal garden gazebo and designing it in beige or anthracite, for example.
Solid material or hollow profiles?
Regardless of whether a gazebo is made of stainless steel or conventional steel or iron, and regardless of any coating that may be present, a further distinction must be made with regard to the material design. In principle, a steel gazebo is made either from hollow steel tubes or solid material. Both variants offer advantages and disadvantages. Solid material is very heavy, which is a disadvantage during construction, but has clear advantages in terms of stability. Tubes, on the other hand, are easier to handle. However, especially with low wall thickness, they tend to bend under higher loads. Therefore, a steel pavilion made from such tubes is only suitable to a limited extent as a solid climbing pavilion or decorative wine pavilion, for example. In addition, you should make sure that there is a coating when you buy a steel gazebo with a tubular construction. This is because tubes rust easily when exposed to the elements without additional protection.
Shapes and sizes for steel gazebos
When it comes to shape and size, you have virtually ‘free choice’ if you want to purchase an iron garden gazebo. Manufacturers offer these gazebos not only in round, oval, four-, six- or even octagonal designs, but also with diameters ranging from around 200 cm to over 300 cm and up to 8 metres. This means that there is a suitable model for every need and every garden. It should be noted that the larger the model and the more complicated the floor plan, the higher the cost of a steel gazebo will generally be. Gazebo accessories should also be taken into account in the total cost.
ELEO Gazebos made of wrought iron steel
Our round and square garden gazebos for private and commercial use are made of high-quality wrought iron steel. Examples of popular models from our range include the Verona, Milano and Genova gazebos. Like all other steel products from our company, they are traditionally handcrafted from robust and very durable high-quality material.
Designed in Germany. Manufactured in Europe.
Solid, weather-resistant and particularly durable.
Coating for a high-quality appearance and optimum durability
Our steel and wrought iron gazebos are available with various coatings. Choose from:
- Hot-dip galvanised
- raw, with patina
- powder coated (= cathodic dip coating followed by powder coating)
Design and furnish steel frame gazebos in a modern or classic style
Since a steel pavilion can be made of shiny silver stainless steel or have a galvanised surface, but can also have a patina finish or be powder coated in a wide variety of colours (e.g. grey, beige or black), there are endless design possibilities. Depending on your personal preferences, the appearance of the steel gazebo can be designed to be modern or classic, or even antique. You can achieve these different looks by using appropriate furniture and matching side panels or trellises. Shade sails, which act as a roof like a tarpaulin, curtains and other individual accessories are also accessories that make your garden gazebo unique. Stainless steel gazebos are the more modern option, while wrought iron gazebos are more suitable for garden owners who want a romantic pavilion or an Art Nouveau pavilion made of metal. Whether you opt for a gazebo with a roof or an open garden gazebo also influences the overall appearance of your garden. With a roof, a gazebo can also be used as a garden tent or party tent and is waterproof compared to various folding gazebos on the market.
Available in various shapes and sizes
Would you prefer a round metal garden pavilion, or would you rather have an oval model? Is a small pavilion with a diameter of only 2 metres sufficient for you, or would you prefer a medium-sized garden gazebo with a diameter of 3 metres, or do you need a spacious luxury gazebo made of steel with a diameter of 5 metres or even more? No problem, ELEO offers the right wrought iron steel pavilions in high-quality designs for every requirement and every need, including matching accessories such as trellises, decorative balls for the roof or sun sails and curtains in various colours.

Designing, maintaining and staging a steel gazebo
A steel gazebo offers the invaluable advantage that, provided it is properly constructed and perhaps coated with a surface finish, it offers maximum stability and weather resistance. Conversely, this means that you do not have to dismantle such a steel gazebo even in the cold season. Because a steel gazebo can remain outside all year round, it is doubly worthwhile to showcase it in a high-quality manner, equip it and adapt it to the individual needs of its users. There are numerous possibilities for this, some of which we would like to present to you below.
Steel gazebos require little maintenance
When it comes to regular care and maintenance, steel gazebos offer significant advantages over plastic or wooden models. While even the highest quality plastic will eventually weather and wood must be regularly painted or varnished to ensure long-term durability, this is generally not necessary with steel. This is especially true if the steel gazebo is made of solid material and perhaps also has a coating. In this case, you can usually leave the gazebo to its own devices for several years without any problems. Unlike a garden tent or folding pavilion, a metal gazebo can remain in your garden all year round.
Steel gazebo as a trellis for decorative climbing plants
Whether grapevines, roses, clematis, ivy or even espalier fruit, they all have one thing in common: they are climbing plants that need a trellis for support. A steel gazebo is naturally ideal for this purpose due to its high stability. Unlike a garden tent or a folding pavilion, steel gazebos are the perfect rose gazebos. This is especially true if you equip your steel gazebo with additional trellises on which your chosen plants can grow. This allows you to determine the direction of growth of the individual shoots to a large extent by tying them up. We offer various designs and trellis models as accessories for your steel arbour.
Predestined for permanent outdoor installation
A steel pavilion is ideal for permanent outdoor installation due to its properties. The high dead weight of the material ensures, for example, that such a stable pavilion generally offers maximum stability even in high winds. Nevertheless, it can’t hurt to secure it with additional ground anchors or to fasten the individual columns of the pavilion to concrete point foundations with screws and dowels. This is also easily possible, especially with gazebos made of solid steel, without causing them to deform. Many models are already equipped with appropriately prepared flanges on the underside of the columns. Unlike a folding pavilion or party tent, a steel gazebo can serve as your personal garden tent all year round and, in versions with a roof tarpaulin, also offers protection from the weather throughout the seasons.
Possible uses for steel garden gazebos
As they are particularly stable and weather-resistant and also available in many different designs, steel pavilions are suitable for a wide variety of purposes. For example, they can be used as follows:
- as a covered arbour or one equipped with a shade sail for relaxing
- as a wine or rose gazebo with climbing plants
- as pavilions for barbecuing or individually equipped garden bars
- if large enough, as party tents or festival pavilions in private and commercial areas
Comparison of steel gazebos with gazebos made from other materials
To highlight the advantages of a steel gazebo over gazebos made from other materials, we have compiled a table below showing the most important characteristics of each material. This clearly shows why a steel gazebo is the perfect choice for almost every garden owner.
| Material | Load capacity | Weather resistance | Weight / Stability | Maintenance requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steel | very high | excellent | very high | low |
| Wood | high | good to very good | high | high |
| Plastic | low | medium to good | low | low |
| Aluminium | medium | very good | medium | low |
