Coating

We offer our wrought iron gazebos in three different coating options:

The uncoated version is particularly suitable if you want your gazebo to develop a romantic antique patina over time.

Our corrosion-resistant coatings provide optimum protection against weathering. While hot-dip galvanised workpieces develop a silvery matt surface, our powder coating applied using the duplex process (standard colour: anthracite DB 703) appeals to those who appreciate simple elegance. Of course, we are also happy to coat your gazebo in your desired colour – powder coating is available in any RAL colour.

A detailed description of the respective coating types and their advantages and disadvantages can be found here.

Customers appreciate uncoated surfaces because of their appearance. After a while, the surface develops a lively rust patina as moisture causes a chemical oxidation process to start. Even though corrosion starts, we guarantee you the highest material stability with this option.

A hot-dip galvanised surface offers special protection against corrosion (rust formation). Hot-dip galvanising creates an alloy layer on the surface, which is achieved by immersing the workpiece in a bath of molten zinc (450°C). This surface coating provides lasting protection for the material against corrosion and environmental influences. As a rule, a zinc coating shines brightly when new. Over time, however, a natural patina forms on the surface. This makes the workpiece appear slightly darker and more matt than when it was delivered.

For the powder-coated version, we use a so-called duplex process. This coating process guarantees a durable seal, which is achieved using a modern cathodic dip coating process. Dip coating provides the best conditions for applying coating powder, which effectively protects the surface, ensures an attractive appearance and guarantees a long service life for the workpiece.

When it comes to untreated gazebos, many customers want to see the distinctive rust patina that gives wrought iron products their lively surface finish develop quickly. Rust is a natural product of corrosion that occurs when ferrous metal comes into contact with water and the chemical process of oxidation begins in the presence of oxygen. This process begins over time without any external influence. Even the ever-present humidity inevitably triggers this process, and weather conditions such as snow, rain or fog have an intensifying effect on the surface texture.

Note: We understand, of course, if you want the patina to form quickly. Nevertheless, we advise against artificially accelerating the weathering process, as oxidation is a chemical decay process despite its visual appeal. With a little patience, you will soon be able to enjoy the constantly changing patina.

Of course, we are also happy to coat your pavilion in your desired colour – powder coating is possible in any RAL colour.

Material

We use high-quality steel as the material for our handmade gazebos made of solid wrought iron.

It is difficult to give an accurate forecast of the durability of wrought iron gazebos. Depending on the location of the gazebo, different environmental conditions prevail, which have varying effects on the material. We offer you the highest possible product quality, with gradual corrosion either desired (patina) or protected against weathering by our coating options (hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated). Read about the advantages of our coating processes here to get an impression of the benefits of our finishes!

Iron and steel are often lumped together without distinction. Iron is a pure metal that occupies a place in the periodic table of elements as ‘Fe’ (Ferrum, Latin for iron). Steel, on the other hand, is a metallic alloy, i.e. a combination of different metals (including iron, chromium, nickel, silicon and carbon). Iron makes up the largest proportion of steel – usually between 97 and 99 per cent. A key difference between iron and steel lies in the malleability of the two metals. While cast iron cannot be reshaped after hardening and becomes brittle when stressed, steel can be further processed and shaped depending on the mixing ratio.

Ferrous metals are generally characterised by their functionality and exceptional durability. However, all ferrous metals are susceptible to corrosion when exposed to moisture. While some customers prefer the formation of the typical rust-red patina, others want to avoid this corrosion as much as possible. ELEO therefore offers various types of coating (e.g. hot-dip galvanising or powder coating) that protect the material surface from corrosion.

Gazebos that you order from us untreated / uncoated will show signs of corrosion over time. The development of such a patina is usually desired by customers. The rust-red patina is referred to as a noble rust and gives your desired model a classic, romantic look.

If you want permanent corrosion protection, we recommend a hot-dip galvanised or powder-coated finish. Both surface coatings can withstand weathering for many decades.

You can find more information about our surface coatings here.

Installation

When your gazebo is delivered, you will receive detailed assembly instructions that will guide you step by step through the process of setting up your gazebo.

Your delivery will include detailed assembly instructions that will guide you step by step through the process of setting up your pavilion. Alternatively, you can download the assembly instructions for the relevant models here.

The tools required for assembly depend on the pavilion model. We have compiled a list of the tools required to assemble your desired model on the second page of the assembly instructions. The assembly instructions for all models can be found here.

For fastening, we recommend screwing a threaded rod (1 metre long and M8 diameter) into the ground at an angle for each post. If the ground is soft, you can use the entire length; if the ground is stony, it is advisable to cut the rod in half. Threaded rods are available from DIY stores or specialist retailers.

Most of our customers assemble their pavilions themselves. Your delivery will include detailed assembly instructions that will guide you step by step through the process of setting up your gazebo.
